Kate Owen, Director & Senior Designer at Futago.
Kate Owen is one of the original co-founders of Futago, based in Hobart, where she leads creative. With a degree in architecture, Kate applies a research driven approach to the studio’s work which has produced some iconic Tasmanian brands and installations. Kate is passionate about the value design can bring to regional economies and is focussed on demonstrating how products and services can be elevated through design in her home state.
Kate had a long-standing involvement with AGDA, sitting as State President and Vice President, before spending over five years on the National Board, in 2014 she was instrumental in bringing the AGDA Biennale and Awards to Hobart for the first time. Through Jane Connory’s research project Kate was identified as one of 24 women to have made a significant contribution to graphic design in Australia since 1960. Her studio is committed to nurturing young Tasmanian designers through a paid-internship program open to recent graduates.
