Starting your own design business can be one of the most exciting steps in your career, one that more and more of us are taking every day. But how do you go about it? What happens afterwards, and what might the future hold?
Start Up, Scale Up, Sell Up is a session for business owners who want to hear from others who've faced - and successfully navigated - three of the most common phases of the design business lifecycle. Each of our three speakers will give you a personal insight into the challenges they faced getting to the next stage and provide guidance on what to consider, how to get support, and when to take the plunge.
Start Up - Ch'an Armstrong is the founder of DesignOps, a Melbourne-based creative community startup that's still figuring out exactly what it is, but enjoying great success in the process.
Scale Up - Atia Cader, Co-founder and Creative Director of renowned studio Paper Stone Scissors, will talk about how her business rose to meet the opportunity presented by the Asian market, and how they've grown and changed as a result.
Sell Up - Konrad Spilva, who founded breakthrough digital agency Isobar, will provide a look into one of Melbourne's best-known exits, sharing insight into his experience of locking-in your success and enabling your business to grow beyond you.
AGDA believes that the future of our industry depends in part on us working together to build a healthy and vibrant community of successful and sustainable design businesses. By sharing our experiences and offering up our knowledge, we hope to help each other avoid some of the common pitfalls while rising to meet the opportunities presented by the changing landscape of Australian design.
