Queensland Theatre Season 2020

The word that comes to mind with this project is ‘subtlety’. In a category rich with sophisticated 3D and animation this stood out to me for its sheer simplicity, its boldness and the subtle details within its execution. A really smart use of colour, provocative typography and simple layout is complemented by some sophisticated editing - I found it artful and engaging with a genuine sensitivity to its subject matter. The sense of restraint makes it powerful. But what I like the most is the attention and focus put upon the performances – the team behind it have really understood their greatest asset and put that proudly on display, everything in the design and production supports that – and ultimately, isn’t performance the heart and soul of great theatre?
