FAQ

From collaboration comes inspiration.
From inspiration, motivation.

Introducing the Student Design Awards: a unique partnership between education & industry, to foster excellence in design.

The Student Design Awards have been established in order to foster employment opportunities for students, as an initiative of the Design Institute of Australia in association with the Australian Graphic Design Association.

By partnering education and industry, the aim is to ensure adoption of principles of excellence in design, as a nett contributor to successful achievement in commerce and industry, assisting in development of internationally recognised design ethics which contribute directly to commercial performance at home and in international markets.

The Student Design Awards programme is capable of influencing developmental trends in industry and education, evidenced during seventy-five years of operation in the United Kingdom, under the auspices of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) upon which this scheme is modelled.

A jury panel of experts with strong balance of relevant academic and industry experience assesses student work entered in the competition.

Project Briefs
Every year, a competition Projects Book will be published. This will be supported by a website (see below), and later an on-line showcase of winning entries.

The project briefs are designed to encourage innovation and originality, based on thorough research and commercial application.

All design disciplines will be covered including Graphic Design and Interactive Media.

Social aspects of design may be incorporated. Topics such as Less Crime through Design, New Design for Old, and Sustainability offer the chance to work on emerging corporate concern with social responsibility.

Who is eligible?
Undergraduates or Postgraduate students, aged not less than 17 years who have studied full time, pat time or in evening classes for not less than one full semester during the two year period prior to the year of entry. They must have attended a course approved by the Design Advisory Group of the Student Design Awards scheme.

Students already employed in the workforce who can be regarded as apprentices, or still learning their profession.

Entrant's must intend following a career related to design or an allied field.

Entries are judged without reference to the entrant's identity, age or place of education.
