Established in Melbourne in 1992, the AGDA National Awards is recognised as the design industry's premier event, having enjoyed highly successful programming in Sydney (1994), Canberra (1996), Adelaide (1998), Brisbane (2000). This year, it is coming home to Melbourne's design heartland and promises to be a spectacular gala presentation evening on Saturday 9th November 2002 at the newly refurbished Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
Wow!
The Sixth AGDA National Awards campaign was launched at a stylish cocktail party for invited sponsors, suppliers, contributors and associates, held at the Melbourne Museum on Wednesday 27th March.
Against Sally-Ann Balharrie's innovative display of twenty plus posters by Melbourne designers, photographers and illustrators, Mimmo Cozzolino, Chair of the Awards Committee introduced INSIDE/OUT-OUTSIDE/IN, the theme of the 2002 AGDA Awards:
'The theme was developed by Andrew Ashton of Precinct with the Awards committee and it was part of Andrew's vision to involve Melbourne designers from a wide cross section, ranging from the very new to the very veteran.
Andrew wanted to make the promotional material for the awards campaign a celebration of the diversity of our design community.
And Melbourne designers have not let us down. Their images and concepts will be used for all the awards collateral: from banners to call for entries, awards book, menus, exhibition material, etc.,' Mimmo said.
According to the designers collective, INSIDE/OUT-OUTSIDE/IN can be interpreted in so many ways:
- It can be a physical thing - like a sock inside out or the inside of someone's head
- It can be irreverent - the contents of someone's handbag displayed on the outer surface of a handbag.
- It can be surreal maybe funny - a window to an unrelated space
- It can be instruction based - the process of how a designer may get from the problem to the solution
- It can be...
