Motherbird Win SOYA Award
15th November, 2010
Congratulations to Victoria studio Motherbird, for taking out the category of Visual Communications in the Qantas SOYA Awards, presented on Thursday 11th November.
"We recognise the importance of cultural experiences, especially when influencing and inspiring design work. Travel is very important. We would use the Qantas flights to travel to Berlin, Zurich & Barcelona, where we could be further exposed and inspired by a diverse art and design culture. As a new studio we would use the cash grant to develop self-promotional pieces, which would help us showcase our work and gain exposure. In turn this would enable us to find new clients and grow as a business. The grant would assist us in developing a non-profit typographic project that we have been planning for some time.
Being so early in our career, having a mentor of Deanne Cheuk's calibre would be an amazing opportunity for us. Deanne's work is incredibly inspiring and we would strongly benefit from her knowledge and experience, helping us develop not only the creative side of our work but the business and managerial side as well. Starting a company at such an early age is sure to encounter times of uncertainty, in which having a mentor will be a huge asset in achieving our long term goals."
