23rd July, 2010

350.org is an international campaign that's building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis--the solutions that science and justice demand.

Their mission is to inspire the world to rise to the challenge of the climate crisis-to create a new sense of urgency and of possibility for our planet.

Their focus is on the number 350--as in parts per million CO2. If we can't get below that, scientists say, the damage we're already seeing from global warming will continue and accelerate. But 350 is more than a number--it's a symbol of where we need to head as a planet.

350 parts per million is what many scientists, climate experts, and progressive national governments are now saying is the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere.

Accelerating arctic warming and other early climate impacts have led scientists to conclude that we are already above the safe zone at our current 392ppm, and that unless we are able to rapidly return to below 350 ppm this century, we risk reaching tipping points and irreversible impacts such as the melting of the Greenland ice sheet and major methane releases from increased permafrost melt.

350.org are campaigning for the Global Work Party on the 10th of October, 2010. The day aims to celebrate climate change solutions, and is the public's chance to promote their own carbon cutting initiatives.

Register your 10/10/10 event and be among the 1000+ groups in 109 countries celebrating the efforts to cut carbon emissions on a global scale.
