Who the hell is Brenton Murray?
8th December, 2009
The new National President of the Australian Graphic Design Association.
AGDA.
AGDA VP for the past two years.
AGDA South Australia President for a couple of years,
VP, Secretary, Treasurer, member etc since 1989.
I'm 49. Live in Adelaide. One wife, three children.
(One's a graphic designer, one's a physio and one's a future fireman - he's 5)
I grew up in a hotel in Brunswick, graduated from
CIT (Monash) in Melbourne, a major in Illustration with Connell Lee.
Worked with Wayne Rankin, one of AGDA's founding members.
Had my folio torn aport by Emery in 80, Tucker in 83,
and a reprieve by Kidd and Y&R in 84.
Moved to Adelaide and started my own studio.
Me in 85, 3 of us in 87 and now 12 of us in 2009.

I'm taking on this role because I think most of you,
member or non-member, employer or employee,
want to be paid more, do better work,
become better designers, be more professional
and be valued and respected more by the community.
I've been where most of you are.
Over the next two years I hope to make a difference
to your career. Member or non-member.
I joined the AGDA committee a couple of years ago
to get the AGDA Website online. Next.
You and I know the value of design.
If you're a member, get involved,
convince other designers to join.
If you're not a member. Join.
AGDA has 2,500 of the 30,000
design community. Numbers count.
One day you may not have to explain
to your parents what you actually
do after 30 years.
There's work to be done.
