Australian Winners at the D&AD Awards
12th June, 2009
Three Australian agencies picked up Yellow Pencils at the annual D&AD Awards Ceremony, held in London this week.
BMF picked up a pencil for its branding work on Tooheys Extra Dry, Saatchi and Saatchi was recognised for its mobile work for the UN Voices project and M&C Saatchi also collected an award for mobile creativity, for the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home.
Australian graphic designer Christopher Doyle also picked up a yellow pencil for his self-promotional piece, Christopher Doyle Identity Guidelines, which also achieved a pinnacle at the 2008 AGDA Awards.
In all, 54 Yellow Pencils were awarded to agencies from across the globe at the awards. Four Black Pencils were handed out for the top creative work, with Droga5 in the US winning two of them.
The D&AD awards were first held in 1962. The awards aim to recognise the best work world-wide in design and advertising. Garrick Hamm, president of D&AD, said:
"The breadth of creative work that's been awarded this year is exceptional. We're in the midst of a challenging time, and this work shows what the industry is capable of.
"The four Black Pencil winners demonstrate the power and all-encompassing nature of creativity - in education, politics and even in the change in our pockets. These winners are more than just great pieces of communication, they change our
behaviour and touch our lives."
