Italian Association of Graphic Design helps earthquake stricken region of Abruzzo
30th April, 2009
AIAP, the Italian Association of Graphic Design, has initiated a campaign dedicated to the post-earthquake emergency in Abruzzo. The AIAP is inviting designers from around the world to assist with two actions:
Signatures for reconstruction
In hope that the reconstruction of Abruzzo becomes an example of qualified application of project disciplines, a letter has been prepared to be sent to those who will be responsible for its' organization:
‘We hope that, once the emergency and emotional wave of these days have been overcome, the reconstruction of L'Aquila and of the other towns which were struck by the earthquake begin quickly and in the best of ways possible. It will be a huge challenge for all project disciplines; a challenge which, if carried on with the right intentions, presents exceptional and highly risky characteristics we feel the urge to reflect upon. Thus, as the debris is being cleared up, we project-builders - architects, urban architects, industrial designers, graphic designers - feel the need to share some reflections and expose them to the attention of those who will be responsible for such difficult decisions, hoping that they will be useful in helping them make the right decisions.'
An auction for the future
Invites designers to donate works that display a strong sign of hope: the idea is to react in the face of the horrors of this extreme a situation with the strength of beauty.
The works received will be sold at auction, and all funds raised will be used to help reconstruction work via the mediation of the Abruzzo-based AIAP associates.
