AGDA Awards Exhibit at New York’s Pratt Institute

AIGA and AGDA National Biennial Awards along with Pratt Institute's Undegraduate Communication Design program, presents an exhibition of new Australian design

Following on from the successful exhibition of the 2008 AGDA Awards winning pinnacles, distinction and finalists work in the New York AIGA Gallery during December 10, 2008 to February 22, 2009, the display has been moved and the exhibition extended to include New York's famous Pratt Institute from March 9 until March 13 at the institute's Design Centre Gallery.

Scott Santoro, a previous International Speaker for AGDA, and who was instrumental in co-ordinating the extended exhibition, says that it's a great opportunity for AGDA - with invites being sent to the entire art school and its industry associates, the best of Australian design is showcased to graphic design, fine art, fash ion, photography, architecture and illustration communities, just to name a few.

"It's nice to connect two parts of the globe", said Scott, Principal of his design studio Worksight, and also Professor at Pratt Institute and the Cooper Union.

According to Scott, Pratt's Brooklyn Campus is the land down under for NYC design schools. "If there's a show, it's usually in Manhattan; so first off, I really want to thank AGDA for offering us an international connection here in our own gallery," said Scott.

"When my students first entered the exhibit, they weren't sure how to interact with the panels. They were somewhat unfamiliar with the work and maybe a little overwhelmed. But as each focussed in on a design, the ideas began to reach out. The work translated. I honestly heard some laughing - I think it was at the self-promotional style manual; and some getting my attention while pointing to a series of tiny, abstract watercolors used as part of a visual identity - beautiful.
