Australian Poster Biennale, brought to you by AGDA
Guest Juror: Alain Le Quernec

We are pleased to announce that the Australian Poster Biennale has partnered with agIdeas for our 2013 exhibition. Thanks to the good people at AGDA and agIdeas, Alian Le Quernec will be our special guest juror. Alain will judge the finalist poster exhibition and award the Foundation Stone and Stepping Stone awards at the opening night.

As part of the Australian Poster Biennale, Alain will also be honoured with a feature exhibition of his posters co-presented by AGDA and agIdeas.

Alain Le Quernec, distinguished professor of art and eminent graphic designer, lives in Quimper, France, working mainly for cultural, social and political purposes. Alain is a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale and participates as a presenter and jury member at graphic design festivals and competitions around the world. Alongside his activities as a designer, he has organised exhibitions of posters by other luminaries such as Shigeo Fukuda, Uwe Loesch and Jan Lenica, and by leading Iranian graphic designers.

Alain's own work has also been widely shown, including solo exhibitions at the Nantes Museum, Nantes, France (1981); Musée de l'affiche, Paris, France (1987); the Modern Art Museum, Tel Aviv, Israel (1992); DDD Gallery, Osaka, Japan (1996); GGG Gallery, Tokyo, Japan (1996); The Centre for Engravings and Prints, La Louvière, Belgium (1997); Galerie Anatome, Paris, France (2001); the Contemporary Art Centre, Carré Sainte-Anne, France (2003); the Modern Art Museum, Bogota, Colombia (2005); the National Museum, Poznan, Poland (2009); and the Poster Museum, Essen, Germany (2009).

Don't forget, entries close on March 22nd so keep working. We're looking forward to seeing everyone's posters!

The Australian Poster Biennale is an ideological poster event. Entrants are asked to respond to the brief and create posters that deal with the suggested issues or themes. The ideological format is a vehicle for designers to express their own point of view and explore new ideas and techniques.

The selected finalist posters will be exhibited at the 2013 Australian Poster Biennale. The opening night of the exhibition will feature the presentation of the Foundation Stone award for outstanding work by a professional, as well as the Stepping Stone award for the best work by a student.

The primary mission of the Australian Poster Biennale is to promote graphic design. The ideological poster medium is an ideal vehicle with which to speak to the public outside of the commercial design arena. Basic human ideals and emotions can be used to engage the greater public and illustrate the power of graphic design. People love posters and the ideological nature of the Australian Poster Biennale exhibition creates a sense of community by dealing with major world issues through a personal and enjoyable discourse. The poster exhibition is engaging, fun and emotional and devoid of branding or commerce, allowing the viewer to simply experience ideas and enjoy design.
