Australian Poster Biennale 2013
The old AGDA Poster Annual as you knew it is going through some changes. For starters, we are excited to announce that the event will now be run biennially and the name has been changed to the Australian Poster Biennale.
As a part of our evolution we are proud to announce a new design theme collaboration with UNICEF providing a social context and public relevance to the works created.
The Australian Poster Biennale is an ideological poster event. Entrants are asked to respond to the brief and create posters that deal with the suggested issues or themes. The ideological format is a vehicle for designers to express their own point of view and explore new ideas and techniques.
The selected finalist posters will be exhibited at the 2013 Australian Poster Biennale. The opening night of the exhibition will feature the presentation of the Foundation Stone award for outstanding work by a professional, as well as the Stepping Stone award for the best work by a student.
The primary mission of the Australian Poster Biennale is to promote graphic design. The ideological poster medium is an ideal vehicle with which to speak to the public outside of the commercial design arena. Basic human ideals and emotions can be used to engage the greater public and illustrate the power of graphic design. People love posters and the ideological nature of the Australian Poster Biennale exhibition creates a sense of community by dealing with major world issues through a personal and enjoyable discourse. The poster exhibition is engaging, fun and emotional and devoid of branding or commerce, allowing the viewer to simply experience ideas and enjoy design.
