The 2012 K.W.Doggett Fine Paper calendar is unleashed
6th December, 2011
K.W.Doggett Fine Paper today launched their 2012 student calendar featuring original, funny, creative and witty ‘Doggie' magazine titles. The calendar brief was commissioned in South Australia for the first time in 25 years, 18 years of which have been dedicated specifically to the student brief.
K.W.Doggett Fine Paper collaborated with the University of South Australia's (UniSA) matchstudio Graduate Diploma/Master of Visual Art and Design students who responded to the open brief, chose the concept and designed the entire calendar. The project provides the opportunity for K.W.Doggett Fine Paper to contribute to a community the company passionately believes in, and offers the students a platform to showcase their creativity while working on a live commercial project.

Part of the UniSA mission is to produce professional graduates. It encourages projects involving close liaison between its students, industry and the community. Project mentors Jane Andrew, Studio Director of matchstudio and David Blaiklock, Illustration Design Course Coordinator, Visual Communication, Art, Architecture and Design strongly agree. "Working with Doggett enabled the students to demonstrate their conceptual and technical skills by working on a client focused project as well as develop skills in studio based collaboration. The students had fun and commented that the experience gained from working on the live brief has been invaluable in helping them make the transition from student to professional practice, " said Ms Andrew.
Catherine Doggett, National Marketing Manager at K.W.Doggett Fine Paper has worked on the student calendar for five years and is always impressed by the students commitment and creativity. "Just like UniSA, we also think it's important for students to gain some commercial experience before they leave University. As a family business, we love working with young talent. One of the most encouraging things about this process is seeing the students creativity develop and getting them involved with the entire job, from initial brief right through to the press check. A big thanks needs to go to AGDA, the catalyst for this year's partnership."

The calendar is printed 4 colour process, with one fluoro PMS 803 on some pages, and an overall sealer varnish. The stock used includes HannoArt Silk A2+ 200gsm and Envirocare 100% Recycled 250gsm for the inside pages, and Envirocare 100% Recycled 300gsm for the cover. The printing and binding was done by Finsbury Green in South Australia, a company that also believes in nurturing students and developing their knowledge about the print industry. Avon Graphics are responsible for the foiled pages.
Over the years, K.W.Doggett Fine Paper has briefed the calendar out to students in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. The calendar is always hotly anticipated by clients and staff and is often requested by customers long after the last one is handed out. The calendars are personally delivered to customers in the lead up to Christmas.
K.W.Doggett Fine Paper is Australia's only independent, family owned paper merchant specialising in creative paper solutions for the print communications industry. Started in 1975 by Ken Doggett, the company has offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide.
