Olympic Venue Transformed into Underwater Wonderland

16th August, 2010

The National Aquatics Centre in Beijing is best known as the site for its iconic involvement during the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Now, the 'Water Cube' of the Beijing Olympics has been refurbished into a fantastical water park, the largest of its kind in Asia. Complete with pastel-colored decor, gigantic jellyfish sculptures and ‘deep-sea tornado' whirlpools and rides, the park certainly is quite a sight to behold. Designed by a Toronto-based company, renovation work took 10 months to complete.

The facility has done fairly well for itself, especially when compared with the Bird's Nest. While the Water Cube had found new life as a water park, the huge stadium is still struggling to raise visitor numbers.
