Meena Kadri, NID - India

Part of a 12 piece exhibition of rotating signs: English of India. Visitors to India are often surprised at the amount of English one encounters in the street, peppered through Bollywood films and even sometimes in remote locales. Here, the colourful sign-writing tradition of India has been used to capture the flavour of this localisation of the global spread of English.

MISCELLANEOUS NEWS

Counting Creativity:  Understanding the Systemization of Design Practices
Leeds Metropolitan University, 12-13 July  2007

Contributions are sought for the second workshop of the 'Counting Creativity' project,  convened by Professor Guy Julier (Leeds Metropolitan University) and Dr Liz Moor (Dept. of Media and Communications, Middlesex University). This workshop will feature papers by academics interested in the causes and effects of systemization, measurement, evaluation and audit culture in the design profession. The event will take both an external view, looking at the broader changes in political economy, public policy and management that have led to the rise of accountability systems, and an internal view, by reviewing how notions of creativity and professionalisation are affected by these within design practice. A publisher for an associated edited  book is currently being sought.

If you are interested in contributing to this workshop by giving a paper,
please send an abstract (max. 200 words) to Guy Julier by Friday 25 May.
