
Mark Gowing Exhibits at the Warsaw Poster Bienniale

On the 5th of June Mark Gowing will be opening an exhibition of 40 posters at the 22nd International Biennale of the Poster in Warsaw. The Exhibition of the Laureates of the 21st International Poster Biennale is a private exhibition awarded each year to the Gold Medal winners in each of the three categories - Cultural Posters, Advertising Posters and Ideological Posters. Mark won the Gold Medal in the Ideological Poster category in 2008 for his poster Oil Kills Peace and is returning to Warsaw for this years event.
The exhibition will feature 40 posters designed by Mark for both commercial commissions and ideological projects including Hopscotch Films, the Sydney Opera House, Preservation Music and the Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation.Mark Gowing is a graphic designer living and working in Sydney. Mark's work is driven by the belief that good design at heart is simple honesty, and while good design is good business, it also demands cultural responsibility. This commitment is exhibited in the studio's output for both corporate and arts focussed clients where Mark seeks to engage audiences with emotional communications defined by a commitment to explorations in typography.
After ten years of experience across a variety of design mediums, Mark began his own design practice in Sydney in 1997. The studio has established numerous long term relationships with clients in both the corporate and cultural fields. The success of these engagements is testament to Mark's desire to foster creative relationships with like minded enterprise.
Mark's work has been exhibited and published around the world. In 2006 Mark received two AGDA Pinnacle awards at the Australian Graphic Design Association Biannual Awards. Since then Mark has won numerous local and international awards including New York Type Directors Club excellence awards, Tokyo Type Directors Club excellence awards as well as Graphis Poster Annual Platinum and Gold awards. In 2008 Mark became the first Australian to win the Gold Medal at the 21st International Poster Biennale in Warsaw, which has led to a feature exhibition at the Biennale in 2010.
The poster 'Oil Kills Peace' (featured), earned Mark a Distinction prize in the 2008 AGDA National Biennial Awards.
