2007 Applied Arts design award winners
>From 1300 entries, eighty eight design firms have been selected as design award winners in the 2007 Applied Arts Advertising and Design Awards. The seven member jury selected the work based on creative merit, technical excellence and suitability for end use. Of the multiple award winners, Montreal firm Paprika received nine awards, Underline Studio of Toronto took home seven, and orangetango and Atelier Chinotto, also both based in Montreal, each came away with six prizes.

Red dot award: communication design 2007 winners
On 6 December 2007, the red dot design museum held the awards presentation of this year's red dot award: communication design. More than 600 guests from 14 nations celebrated the winners in the impressive atmosphere of the former boiler house of the Zeche Zollverein colliery. The winners of the honorary prizes awarded to the best entries of the competition were, like every year, kept on tenterhooks until the very end. It was not until this point in the awards presentation that the three winners of the red dot: grand prix were announced and the best student entry, "Type Generator, received the red dot: junior prize. All works will be on display until 6 January 2008 in the red dot design museum.

After Ashley - Theater poster
Dyango Chavez Cutino, AIGA - United States
After Ashley, written by Gina Gionfriddo is a satire about media today. 17-year-old Justin is still reeling from his mother Ashley's murder three years ago. His father meanwhile, has written a best-selling novel about the crime and now stars in his own crime TV show.

OPINION
64 and beyond:
Design for the next generation
The realignment of demographics toward an older profile, especially in developed countries, presents new challenges and considerations for communication designers. Of all humans who ever lived to age 65 half are still living. Which areas of communication design do you believe are most influenced by this new reality?

New ISO standards published ISO 7001:2007, ISO 22727:2007
ISO 7001:2007 specifies graphical symbols for the purposes of public information. It is generally applicable to public information symbols in all locations and all sectors where the public has access. ISO 7001:2007 specifies the symbol originals that may be scaled for reproduction and application purposes. The symbols may be used in conjunction with text to improve comprehension.
ISO 22727:2007 specifies requirements for the creation and design of public information symbols. It specifies requirements for the design of public information symbols for submission for registration as approved public information symbols, including line width, the use of graphical symbol elements and how to indicate negation.
