emerystudio’s New Bumper Trilogy Edition – To Three

24th June, 2008

To Three, a major publication on emerystudio’s environmental graphics. The publication, designed by Wang Xu, a prominent graphic designer based in China, is being launched in Melbourne and Sydney and is a design feast for English and Chinese speaking readers.

To Three consists of three volumes bound together in a case. The title alludes to the trilogy as well as the two- and three-dimensional nature of environmental graphic design.

‘Environmental graphic design incorporates everything to do with public space in relation to information, experience and placemaking: identification signage for buildings, directional and information signage systems for public places, place markers, gateway elements, lighting, street furniture, festive and events overlays, art in public spaces. Environmental graphic design ranges in scale from signage for single buildings to wayfinding for citywide transit systems.’

‘We were interested in seeing how a designer from a different culture would interpret what we do. Wang Xu has presented our work in a way we would never think to do. We are excited by his approach. It’s amazing.’ - Garry Emery

A series of clear, straightforward essays about environmental graphic design, placemaking, urban legibility, and identity give great insight into the thinking behind emerystudio’s design work and provide valuable material for designers and students to ponder.

To Three presents principal works of the past decade including Parliament House of Australia, Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, Petronas Towers, Burj Dubai, Sydney Opera House, Manchester Civil Justice Centre, and Federation Square Melbourne.
