About this FAQ Page
1. Why is it here?
2. How do I point to a particular queston/answer?
1. How do I join AGDA?
You need to fill out a form, and pay an annual fee. See Joining AGDA for detailed instructions.
2. What is my membership number?
Your membership number is used as the password for accessing the Members Only area of this site. See What is my Password?
3. What is my password?
That depends - currently it's possible to have two passwords for different areas of the site. One is for accessing "Members Only" content. The other password you might need is if you've set up an account with AGDA's member forums.
Members Only Password
Your membership number is used as the password for accessing the Members Only area of this site. See What is my Password?
AGDA Members Forum Password:
Access to simply read the forums is based on the same name and password as for the main ADGA website: What is my Password?Once you're in the forums area, you can join (or log in) to participate. If you've forgotten your password to log in to the forums, click the Login link, and on the login screen there's a link called 'I forgot my password' which when followed will allow you to have a new password sent to the email address you gave when you first registered.
4. I tried my number, but it still didn't work...
Refering to What is my Password?, are you sure you typed your name as it appears on your membership card? It sometimes takes up to a week from the time you join AGDA until your name is added to the password database, so if you've only joined this week, you may try waiting another couple of days.
5. When all else fails...
Contact the National Secretariate, as they manage membership administration, including the password access to this site. Contact details for the National Secretatriat can be found at the top of the Contacts and Councils page.
6. For AGDA councillor/office bearers
If a member approaches you directly complaining that their password for this site doesn't work, guide them to contact the AGDA Natoinal Secretariat (Robyn Brazier) on secretariat@agda.com.au or 02 9955 3955.
1. "I cannot download a PDF (Acrobat File) from this site - an error states that it is damaged."
All PDF's placed on this site are carefully checked with several computers, so the problem is unlikely to be with the file. The good news is that in most cases there are some simple things you can try to resolve the problem yourself:
- Be sure to use Acrobat Reader 5.0 or later. If you're not, get it here.
- Try downloading the file to your computer and opening it from within the program directly. To download the file:
Mac: Option click on the link PC: right click on the link Now launch Acrobat Reader and use the Open dialog under the File menu to open the downloaded file from Acrobat directly. - Try downloading the file from a different computer - this often gets around a problem with a particular computer.
2. "Plug-in needed" When I try to view an Acrobat file I get an error!
If you get the following message - "you do not have the plug-in needed to view the application/pdf type info on this page." then you don't have the free Acrobat Reader software installed, or it's not installed properly.
The Acrobat Reader enables you to view or print a PDF file. (Get it here)
The Acrobat Reader comes with a plugin called 'PDFViewer' which you place in your browser's Plug-ins folder. Then you should be able to view the file.
Alternatively, you can save the Acrobat file to your hard disk, and then open it manually using the Acrobat Reader software.
For more help, consult this page.
3. I can't submit anything other than text to AGDA's site?
No sorry. We have strict space constraints with our server agreement. Also, if we started accepting content other than text, it's hard to draw a line. But it's easy enough to link to your file if it's hosted elsewhere. See the following points for more info...
4. Can I link to large files instead?
Yes. This is the workaround method for including large files in your content. If you have your own site, all you have to do is load your file onto it, and include an appropriate link to it in your text. If you don't have your own site, keep reading...
5. Who can host my large file instead?
If you don't have your own site, there are a range of free web services that will allow you to set up your own site, which can then host your files. These services host from 5 to 50Mb, depending on which one you choose. Some random examples are http://geocities.yahoo.com, http://www.tripod.lycos.com
6. How do I include a link to my file in an article?
You need to know a little bit about HTML, which is beyond the scope of this page, but there are many good books that introduce the basic concepts of HTML. Alternatively, the NCSA has a good explanation on-line that you can refer to here.
1. About a National Event
First, did you try the search form found at the bottom of every page - it's a good place to start. The second stop is to make an enquiry to the National Secretariate of ADGA, Robyn Brazier (secretariat@agda com au).
2. About a State Event
First, did you try the search form found at the bottom of every page - it's a good place to start. Unfortunately, the State Councils have not really kept the Events section up to date with their own events, so most likely, your best bet if you have a question regarding a State event is to contact your local Council (And while you're at it, give 'em stick for not updating their area of Events & News ;-) See Contacts and Councils.
3. About this site's Policy or Content
Andrew Lam-Po-Tang (andrew@lam-po-tang com) is the site's Editor, and the person to contact.
4. About this site's construction or technical matters
Robert Black (robert@therefor com au) is the site's developer, and the person to contact.
5. About AGDA in general
Make an enquiry to the National Secretariate of ADGA, Robyn Brazier (secretariat@agda com au).
6. What.... is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
'What do you mean? An African or European swallow?' Sometimes we don't have the answer to a question, and in fact are not the most appropriate source to ask. When I want to find something out, I usually turn to an Internet search engine, and these days it's always Google.
1. Why is it here?
Because often there is a simple and obvious question about AGDA's site that occurs to many people. By having this page here, whenever the same question gets asked several times, we can place the question and its answer here, and then refer people directly to it.
2. How do I point to a particular queston/answer?
The little red arrow to the right of each question is a hyperlink that points back to that particular question and its answer. This allows any of the people who work with this site to easily copy the link, so that they can refer someone to it.
