by AGDA Awards 2006 Committee

There is just two months remaining until the winners of the 8th AGDA National Biennial Awards are announced at Parliament House on 28 October. Ticket details and invitations will be released soon keep an eye out here, on the AGDA website, for all the latest information.

This year, AGDA's landmark event returns to Canberra. Ideally located between the two major design cities of Sydney and Melbourne, and coupled with a rare and unique opportunity to be entertained in the Great Hall of Parliament House, high attendance numbers are assured for AGDA's 8th Awards program. Parliament House is the pinnacle of our federal democracy, and it is fitting our event will attract the cream of the design industry from around Australia as they strive to reach the pinnacle of our profession.

Hosting the awards in Canberra provides a symbolic and focused occasion for the industry to converge, enjoy and celebrate not just the best of our creative industry, but also the best of our city's political and cultural landscape. Parliament House is perfectly positioned at the point of the Parliamentary triangle, with 5-star and boutique hotels just minutes away. At its feet are some of Australia's greatest national attractions, including the National Gallery of Australia, the Australian War Memorial and the National Museum of Australia. Canberra has been built on bringing people together from the country's historical, social and creative borders and these awards will acknowledge that tradition.

The organising committee are delighted to be able to reaffirm and demystify some of the perceptions of Canberra. We plan to provide opportunities to experience the expected, as well as the unexpected. By being part of the infinite possibilities of these celebrations, we promise you will be enlivened, excited and more than a little engaged.
