While reflecting on times past, it suddenly occured to me that the AGDA website has recently turned 10 years old. The site was first launched in 1996 at which point I was working overseas. The site provided me with great comfort as I was able to maintain a link with the Australian design community, in what was still, really, the infancy of the internet as we know it today.
The site's existance owes much to the extraordinary efforts of Robert Black and Andrew Lam-Po-Tang. Both have spent thousands of hours over the last decade making sure that the site was first launched and then continued to operate smoothly while being constantly updated. We owe these two guys a massive thank you, and pats on the back. And to everyone else who has contributed to the site over the previous decade, I thank you as well.
Some people may wish that this website was different to what we see today. And perhaps, many would agree with this sentiment. What cannot be denied is the impact the AGDA site has made on the design community over these last ten years. The site attracts an extraordinary amount of hits each month. From my days as a budding designer, finding my way in the world, to my current position as AGDA Awards Chair 2006, the AGDA website has always been there to inform, support and update the Australian design community.
Thank you!

[Robert Black: Thanks Liam. Others who've contributed to the site are Beata Vitas, who did the original template design in '96, and Keith Deverell who did the current design 4 years later. I'm pleased to say that the site is currently undergoing a major overhaul behind the scenes that will see modern community features start to appear soon. And of course, there's growing pressure to refresh the site's templates (aka: visual design) that we're hoping to address next year]
