Renowned designer Chip Kidd is coming to town!

Described as 'the closest thing to a rock star' in graphic design (USA Today), Chip Kidd, writer and designer from New York City, is universally recognized as an American master of contemporary book design.

At the forefront of a revolution in publishing, Kidd's iconic covers, with their inventive marriage of type and found images, have influenced an entire generation of design practitioners in many fields and in 1998 he was made a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale.

As an editor of comic books for Pantheon (a subsidiary of Knopf), Kidd has worked extensively with some of the most brilliant talents practicing today, including: Chris Ware, Art Spiegelman, Dan Clowes, Kim Deitch, Charles Burns, Mark Beyer, Ben Katchor and Alex Ross.

Chip Kidd: Book One collects all of his book covers and designs for the first time, as well as hundreds of developmental sketches and concepts - annotated by Kidd and by many of the best-selling authors he's worked with over the years.

Published in October of 2005, the introduction is by John Updike, and the 400-page book features over 800 works, spanning two decades. A visually dazzling (and often hilarious) insider's look at the design and publishing process its first edition sold out a week before publication and it has since gone into two consecutive re-printings.

Kidd was a finalist for the 2006 National Design Award for Communications, and in the same year his work was included in the Cooper-Hewitt Museum's third National Design Triennial.

The Cheese Monkeys, Kidd's first novel, was published by Scribner in 2001, and was a national bestseller, as well as a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. His second novel, The Learners, will be published in February of 2008.

'The history of book design can be split into two eras: before graphic designer Chip Kidd and after' Time Out, New York, November 2005.

AGDA is delighted to present Chip Kidd in conjunction with our Partner Sponsors of the AGDA International speaker Tour 2007.
