AGDA National Conference 2005 - Designed to Inspire, Inform and Invigorate

7th AGDA National Conference 2005
Friday 19 and Saturday 20 August, 2005
Sheraton Noosa Resort, Sunshine Coast, Queensland
11-14 Hastings Street, Noosa Heads

THEME
The Secret of Design Effectiveness. The bottom line and the high ground.
Design effectiveness is one of the best kept commercial secrets. Too few organizations know the true value of effective design, and the facts and figures are not often revealed. Effective design is design that makes a difference. It embraces the performance of organizations, and adds value to the products and services they provide for customers. It gives competitive edge. It creates wealth and prosperity, and improves the quality of life. - John Sorrell

PROGRAM
AGDA is pleased to present the AGDA National Conference 2005 program - a biennial design creativity, business and technology conference designed to inspire, inform and invigorate.

As the peak industry organization for design professionals, AGDA's charter is to promote and advance design as a discipline, profession and cultural force.
The 2005 AGDA National Conference promises to deliver yet another fabulous experience set amidst the beach, surf and sun of Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

The program will feature plenary sessions from an impressive line-up of national and international experts including Wolfgang Weingart, Paul Davis and Vince Frost.
Panel workshops and discussion forums will increase every professional's cache of business tools, creative thinking techniques and inspirational strategies to live, work and contribute better.

The beginnings of a Design Summit within the conference program will lead the Australian design community on a critical journey of discovery and discourse, and chart a road-map for the national design agenda in a new era of constant change.

SPEAKER HIGHLIGHTS
Paul Davis, London, UK
Often starting from overheard conversations and chance observations, Paul Davis' immodest drawings turns the way we think upside down. Alternately anarchic, profound and provocative, he uses his drawings to laugh about life, intelligence, stupidity, culture and ponders the way we love and hate.

His work has been exhibited worldwide and he has a broad and varied client list including Pentagram, Virgin, IBM and BT.

A master satirist with a firm grasp of the inanity of the human condition, Davis' books Blame Everyone Else (2004), Them and Us (2004) and God Knows (2005) will have you laughing out loud.

Wolfgang Weingart, Basel, Switzerland
Typography legend, Wolfgang Weingart is bound to make waves at the 2005 AGDA National Conference.

Renowned for his anti-Swiss style of typography in the sixties, as well as his inspirational teaching, experimenting, designing and writing in the ensuing years, he has capped this amazing 'New Wave' journey with the long-awaited, impressive 500-page book titled Wolfgang Weingart: Typography.

Since 'retirement' from the Basel School, he presents and lectures all over the world, whilst running his annual summer program on typography - this year's theme is 'back to basics'. Be prepared for some non-synchronised 'swimming' when you check into Weingart's masterclass session.

Vince Frost, UK and Australia
Vince Frost began his career in the UK in freelance practice for Howard Brown, then Pentagram, before forming his won consultancy Frost Design in 1994.

Since April 2004, as joint design director of emeryfrost in Australia with internationally acclaimed designer and AGI member, Garry Emery, he now divides his time between Melbourne and Sydney, in addition to his ongoing role at Frost Design London.

His distinctive use of photographic images and striking typography has been applied to a diverse range of award winning projects earning him world-wide recognition and membership of the CSD, D&AD, ISTD and AGI.

Find out how Frost measures the effectiveness of his work for his clients, his partnerships and his creativity.

More speaker highlights will be featured as they come to hand.
