Results of the 'Imaginer la place d'Armes' UNESCO Urban Design Workshop
Widening the boundaries of Place d'Armes, connecting it to underground passages, revealing four centuries of history, creating an open space on a human scale, highlighting the architectural diversity surrounding the Place These are some features of the daring, inventive proposals submitted by the three teams of renowned designers from Montreal, Berlin and Buenos Aires invited to take part in the recent "Imaginer la place d'Armes" UNESCO Urban Design Workshop.

Call for papers: Design Thinking: New Challenges for Designers, Managers and Organisations
The Design Management Institute is pleased to announce a Call for Papers for the DMI International Education Conference, “Design Thinking: New Challenges for Designers, Managers and Organisations.” The Conference, in collaboration with Lancaster University, UK; ESSEC Business School, France; and SDA Bocconi School of Management, Italy; will take place 14-15 April 2008 at ESSEC Business School in Paris, La Défense. DMI invites researchers and practitioners to submit a paper proposal that contributes to theory building, provides examples of empirical research or uses case studies to illustrate how, when and why designing turns into an organizational asset and a tool for managers. The deadline for proposals is 21 December, 2007.

Medicines, information design and people's health:
Information Design Association meeting
Health information implies a relationship between the health industry (NHS, medicines, drug industry) and its users (who are not always patients). This implicit relationship is clearly embedded in documents and information that the health industry produces - complex language, authoritarian instructions and poor design make up a dangerous cocktail, and there's little doubt it could be harmful to people's health. Looking at examples of forms, instruction leaflets and other healthcare resources, this talk will examine how we can create a healthier relationship, and the potential role of information design in improving health.
David Dickinson was formerly editor of Health Which? and is a leading expert on patient information.
