Steven Heller honoured by School of Visual Arts
School of Visual Arts (SVA), New York City, will honour Steven Heller with the Masters Series Award and retrospective exhibition. He is the author, co-author or editor of over 100 books on graphic design, illustration and political art, was an art director at The New York Times for 33 years and is a columnist for The New York Times Book Review. Heller is also the co-founder and co-chair of the MFA Design Department and co-founder of the MFA Design Criticism Department at SVA. "The Masters Series: Steven Heller" will be on view from 22 October - 1 December 2007, at the Visual Arts Museum, 209 East 23rd Street, New York City.

Sappi: Consistency Intensified
Consistency, whatever the weight and surface, is the theme of Sappi's latest promotional campaign for its Magno range of premium woodfree coated sheets. "We have continued to build on Magno's reputation for consistency and reliability across the grammage range by improving the surface quality of our board weights, so printers, designers and end users only need to use one brand to match text and cover for their uniquely special job," says Magno Business Manager Margaret Baker.

New ezine launched: Design Philosophy Politics
Design Philosophy Politics is a new ezine companion to Design Philosophy Papers, featuring short, hard-edged articles on design, the unsustainable and sustainment. Issue 1 focuses on why we need 'the political' rather than politics; an interview with Islamic thinker, activist and writer Ziauddin Sardar; articles on the politics of everyday stuff: laundromats, plastic chairs, a steel garden, and an unsustainable living room.

Young Montreal designer will work at Les Ateliers de Paris
The Design Montreal Bureau of Ville de Montreal has awarded Louis Drouin, a young Montreal industrial designer, $25,000 in financial support to develop and launch a line of kitchen utensils during a six-month stay at Les Ateliers de Paris. The award was made with the partnership of the Ministere du Developpement economique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation du Quebec, the Direction du Developpement Economique et de l'Emploi of the city of Paris, and Alto Design of Montreal.

21 September: IFG Ulm «Designing politics – The politics of design»
The annual hearing of the IFG Ulm will take place from 20-21 September. Invited participants will be discussing the shortlisted eight applications for the promotional program with the IFG advisory board. The projects will take place in Germany, at the Balkans, in North and South America. The applicants themselves will present the projects. On Friday afternoon, the IFG advisory board will decide on who
receives the grant in the amount of EUR 50 000.
There will be a public event on the evening of 21 September 2007 at the Stadthaus Ulm, starting at 20:00, with a speech by Roger M. Buergel, artistic director of documenta. You are cordially invited to take part. Free entrance.
