From 5 April to 5 May 2007, the Faculty Gallery at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia will host +&-=X: 20 Years of typo-graphics from the Tokyo Type Directors Club. The exhibition will include opening events on Friday, 13 April.

Logo Cities: An International Symposium on Signage, Branding and Lettering in Public Space
Cities are awash in 'public lettering': street signs, newspaper mastheads, road signs, high-rise corporate logos, store/shop/restaurant signs, engravings on buildings and monuments, etc. They are at once branding and promotional devices; names (of buildings); labels; locating devices; material and technological artefacts; pieces of graphic, typographic, and industrial design; architectural heritage; industrial detritus; personal and cultural narratives. They are also intricately linked to the dominant preoccupations of the city: high-rise logos, for example, eloquently describe the commercial, financial, civic, even religious priorities of a particular urban locale - especially at night.

The Icograda Education Network (IEN) is pleased to welcome the Shanghai University College of Digital Arts as its newest member. Established on 18 January 2005, the College of Digital Arts Shanghai University is the first and the only comprehensive college specialised in digital arts in China, where the study of arts and digital technology is integrated within a single professional school.

International Journal of Design: A Step Forward launched
International Journal of Design is a peer-reviewed journal devoted to publishing research papers in all fields of design, including industrial design, visual communication design, interface design, animation and game design, architectural design, urban design, and other design related fields. It aims to provide an international forum for exchange of ideas and findings from researchers across different cultures, by encouraging research on the impacts of cultural factors on design theory and practice. It also seeks to promote transfer of knowledge between professionals in academia and industry, by emphasizing research where results are of interest or applicable to design practices.

A new identity for the City of London Police
2tempo has designed a new identity for the City of London Police and is now implementing the project throughout their corporate communications.
2tempo is a design/brand/training agency based in Bromley, South East London headed up by the creative director Gareth Simpson. Diseño Shakespear exhibit spotlights Argentina
Argentina will be in the spotlight with the Diseño Shakespear exhibit, which will run from 22 May – 24 June in the Katzen Arts Center at the American University, Washington DC. Diseño Shakespear has specialised in environmental design for decades and its wayfinding work can be seen all over the country, from the Temaiken zoo to the Underground network of Buenos Aires. The exhibit will show 3D signs and panel images of 45 years work iincluding the City Signage, hospital wayfinding systems,Tren de la Costa,and more. The show has toured extensively, including stops in Xalapa, Guadalajara, Richmond/Virginia, Centro Borges and National Fine Arts Museum in Buenos Aires.

Posters from Tehran: An Exhibition & Workshop of Majid Abbasi

During the first week of May 2007, the Basel School of Design will be host to Majid Abbassi for an exhibition of his posters and a two day workshop. The workshop will focus on 50 years of typography and calligraphy in the graphic design of Iran. During the past years Alan Fletcher (London), Ahn Sang-Soo (Seul), Helmut Schmidt (Osaka) and Hamish Muir (London) have also held workshops and delivered speeches at this School. The Basel School of Design and its students have influenced the international graphic design community since the 1960’s. Under the direction of Armin Hofmann and Emil Ruder courses for graphic design and typography were developed. They were outstanding models for a modernist design education. Wolfgang Weingart was a professor of typography at this School until the year 2004. Since the year 2000, the Swiss educational system has undergone an astonishingly rapid process of adapting its educational institutions to the international standards of the Bachelor and Master curricula at the University level. In this process the Visual Communication department became a separate institute from the vocational level School of Design (Schule für Gestaltung Basel). We are now part of the University system of Northwest Switzerland and have developed a curriculum for the University level with international accreditation.
