WIPO establishes Creative Industries Division

In response to the vast economic and employment-generating potential of the
creative industries demonstrated by several national surveys, WIPO
has created a Creative Industries Division (CID). The new branch is tasked:
  • to develop projects to facilitate the optimal use of the IP system
in the creative industries for continuous economic growth, increased
    trade and overall development, and
  • to assist interested countries in assessing the economic value of
their creative sector through the preparation of national surveys
following the methodology contained in the WIPO "Guide on surveying the
economic contribution of the copyright-based industries."

To serve the needs of the creative industries worldwide, including policy makers,
the CID will develop partnerships with members of academia, representatives of
professional bodies and managers of cultural/creative enterprises.

Arabic for Designers features over 200 examples of the best in contemporary Arabic graphic design and typography. This book provides a framework for designers unfamiliar with Arabic script. From newspaper and television news typefaces, to book jacket designs, to posters, to logotype conversions, to case studies about specific design and brand identity projects, Arabic for Designers demonstrates how designing with Arabic can yield incredibly innovative, beautiful and successful results.

Compiled from over 40 years of working with an array of corporate and creative clients, Mourad Boutros’s insight on how to design with Arabic provides the groundwork upon which designers will be able to apply their trade.
