Register for Taipei Regional Meeting!

The next Icograda Regional Meeting will be held in Taipei (Taiwan) on 28-29 September 2002. The meeting will address the state of graphic design in Asia through presentations and workshops and will end with the development of a regional agenda. Participants will have the unique opportunity to network with designers, share ideas and discuss design issues in their respective countries with the Icograda Board. An 'Innovalue and Branding' seminar will run concurrently with the meeting. To attend the Icograda Regional Meeting, register by 31 August 2002.

In the past two years, Icograda Regional Meetings have been held in Istanbul, Seoul, Copenhagen, Zagreb, Cuba, Melbourne, Vancouver and recently, in Brno. These meetings have been successful in advancing the graphic design profession by promoting design awareness around the world. The Taipei Regional Meeting will be held at the International Trade Building/Taipei World Trade Centre in Taiwan.

In addition to the Regional Meeting, a seminar on the theme of 'Innovalue and Branding' will be held on 27 September 2002. Participants and presenters will exchange views on brand worth, design strategy and marketing. The seminar will provide valuable design ideas for manufacturers who wish to upgrade their corporate and brand images. Speakers include Robert Peters (Canada), Mervyn Kurlansky (Denmark), Yu Bing-nan (China), William Harald-Wong (Malaysia), Chang Don-Ryun (Korea), and Stan Shih (Acer Inc.) and Liu Chin-Biau (Giant Mfg. Co., Ltd.) from Taiwan. The seminar is organised by Icograda and China External Trade Development Council (CETRA) and will take place at the Taipei International Convention Centre.

Calendar for Gavella Theatre

The idea was to visualize time by putting the months and days in exact geometrical positions, so that the passing of it seems logical and natural.

Do you feel design exhibitions reflect the true state of the profession?

As we saw last week, the majority of designers stated a preference for specialised exhibitions focusing on a specific subject to the general overviews of design production. Specialised concept exhibitions maybe are a trend, but what is happening with general overviews of designer’s works? Do you feel such exhibitions aiming to showcase what is best in design right now really reflect the true state of design profession?

Do you exhibit your work?

Design exhibitions today take many forms and offer a multitude of views. Doing your work is fine, but exhibiting it always makes good advertising and adds that extra sparkle into one's CV. We wanted to know how many of you send your work to design exhibitions.

Seeing these answer we could say most of you are quite negligent when it comes to making your work visible to the public. Almost a half of you (44 percent) never exhibit their work, while 30 percent do it occasionally, when there is an award scheme or a specific exhibition they take special interest in. Just 26 percent stated they exhibit their work quite often.

Do you exhibit your work?
I exhibit my work quite often 26%
Only when there is an award scheme or a special exhibition 30%
Never 44%
