Vancouver, Canada to Host Icograda Regional Meeting Events Conclude with Two-Day Design Perspectives Seminar

The British Columbia and Vancouver Island Chapters of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) and the Seattle and Portland Chapters of the American Institute of Graphics Arts (AIGA) today announced that the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) will hold a North American regional meeting and international design seminar in Vancouver, BC. Information design processes: developing accessible and understandable information
By Karel van der Waarde

Aren’t all graphic design projects very similar? I mean the ways in which graphic designers solve problems, or the ways in which designers change situtions into preferred ones?

Do you consider Certification a good idea?

We have learnt last week that most of you have no possibility of obtaining a professional certificate or license. Nonetheless, we want to know if you consider having such a certificate a good or a bad idea.

Give your opinion and vote at http://www.icograda.org

Should Art directors be designers?

Last week we saw that half of the Art directors you work for are not designers themselves, so we want to know if this might be the cause of your concerns. We asked if you think your collaboration would be better if your Art director was a designer.

The answers we received from you indicate there are definitely two different streams of opinion. Almost a half of you seem to think that all Art directors should be designers, whereas the exactly same percentage think it is of no importance. In the middle, there is just 12 percent of you that think it is not necessary.

Should Art directors be designers?
Yes, absolutely 44%
Not necessarily 12%
No, it doesn't matter 44%

Welcome to designing the future of Europe!
The project Europe 2020 aims to envision the notion of our diverse yet common European culture by bringing together the ultimate think-tank of the best visual communicators from across Europe. The 9th of May is Europe Day. In honour of this day, on its eve, here in Zagreb, Croatia during the Europe Week we will open one of the most ambitious exhibitions of poster design ever organized on the old continent. Taking into account your distinguished professional work, your experience, your knowledge, and your skills to communicate complex messages with clarity and simplicity, we simply could not imagine this event without inviting you to participate too. As the Competition is by invitation only, we kindly ask the designers to contact their associations and ask to be nominated to represent their country with their work.

A cross-section of a year chosen at random, the poster collection casts its net in its own archive and presents posters from Paris, London, Moscow, New York, Zurich or Milan. They all have only one thing in common: the year in which they were produced. For once history is not seen as a continuous development, but as a broad showplace for simultaneity.
