Icograda Endorses the 18th BIO Biennial, Slovenia
The 18th BIO Biennial in Ljubljana, Slovenia has received Icograda's endorsement. The Eighteenth Biennial of Industrial Design - BIO 18 will be a comparative exhibition of well designed Slovenian and foreign industrial products. The practical organisation is undertaken by the BIO Secretariat under the auspices of the Architectural Museum of Ljubljana in co-operation with Designers' Society of Slovenia - DOS. The aim of the exhibition is to present current movements in contemporary domestic and foreign industrial design. The 2002 Biennial presents designs (not in production) prior to January 1, 2000 and not exhibited at BIO 17.

My First Year in Business
by Diane Richard
Striking out on your own is a bold move. But if your style is more Mr. Rogers than Mr. T, you can ease into your role as a business owner. A year and a half into the life of his firm, Steve Hartman has discovered that this strategy is the key to his success.

Do you work with Art directors?
Many designers work in large studios or advertising agencies under Art directors. Sometimes they are fellow designers and sometimes they come from different backgrounds. We want to explore your experiences with your collaborators.

How well does the legal system in your country protect your authorship rights?
Considering a recent poll in which just 28 percent of you stated they would seek legal advice in case their authorship rights were abused, we wanted to find out if it is because you think it is no big deal or you have so little faith in the legal system.
These results look really bad. An overwhelming 79 percent of designers consider the legal system in their country to be inefficient when it comes to protecting their authorship rights. A 13 percent of satisfied designers isn't very encouraging, as it is neither the mere 8 percent who consider it to be occasionally efficient. It looks that, for most of us, there is a lot of work ahead to provide our profession with respect and protection it deserves.
How well does the legal system in your country protect your authorship rights?
Quite well 13%
It works sometimes 8%
It doesn't really work in practice 79%
