Icograda Announces Lecturers for 'Identity/Integrity' Conference in Brno

An international Conference on the theme of "Identity/Integrity", organised by the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) will take place in Brno, Czech Republic on 18 and 19 June, 2002. This conference will be the first of its kind in Eastern Europe where important needs in the field of Corporate Identity have been identified.

This conference will explore a new course in terms of corporate identity - defining new approaches, integrating new values and taking the lead in terms of design development and vision. It will bring new perspectives to corporate identity, as the result of the realisation that the concept of corporate identity as praised in the '80s and '90s is no longer valid - due to rapid changes and crises in world social, cultural and economic structures. As stated by the organisers; "It's time for ethics to join aesthetics. It's time for integrity to balance identity."

Mowlavi
by Reza Abedini, IGDS, AGI, Iran

This poster is designed for the celebration of the great Iranian poet, Mowlavi. The main Figure and also the red angels are taken from Persian miniatures. Persian typography is made by using Iranian classical calligraphy (Nastealiq). The critical point of the poster is to illustrate the Spiritual ecstasy of the great poet.

Eyes on the prize
by Ben Hargreaves

Design competitions grow in scope and number with each passing year. But what exactly is their true worth, and is the industry in danger of celebratory saturation?

Do you feel your business is doing better, the same or worse than three months ago?
As we try to ascertain what the major problems and issues in the graphic design profession are, we also want to keep track of the changes in the practice and your forecasts for the times to come. Since we are trying to establish the flow of trends and other issues regarding graphic design, we thought it suitable to have this question repeated every few months.

Do you think graphic design associations should provide legal advice and/or action when the authorship rights of their member are jeopardized?

In some of our previous polls we have discussed issues of plagiarism and legal protection of a designer's work. Now we wanted to know if you think your association should provide you with legal advice and/or services should such a problem occur.

Your response seems to clearly indicate that most of you (two thirds) expect their association to offer legal advice and services to their members. 26 percent of you think they should not offer services, but be able to provide you with sound professional advice and suggest a future course of action. Just 8 percent of you think such an issue should be handled by each designer individually.

Do you think graphic design associations should provide legal advice and/or action when the authorship rights of their member are jeopardized?
Yes, associations should offer legal advice and services 66%
Partially, they should offer professional advice and suggest a future course of action 26%
No, it is not their problem, each designer should individually handle such a problem 8%

Publicidad y Diseno
