Celebrate the World Graphics Day!
C: Thierry Van Kerm
E: secretariaticograda.org

This year, 27 April will be on 27 April!
But as every year, 27 April is a special day: it's the World Graphics Day!

A day graphic desiners around the world can't forget.

The World Graphics Day is a day during which all graphic designers will celebrate their profession, maybe by working more, maybe by working less, maybe by showcasing what graphic design is or simply by having a drink or a party with colleagues...

Graphic design associations and graphic designers are encouraged to organize events all around the world to commemorate this special day and Icograda will promote all these events through its medias: eNews, website,...

Don't hesitate to provide Icograda Secretariat with a short description of your action(s) and/or event(s), respecting the following format:

By Jacques Lange

The Design Achievers Awards was established in South Africa in 1987 and distinguished itself from other design awards through its national and multidisciplinary character and its emphasis on entrepreneurship and leadership ability, and creative excellence as a way to promote and stimulate the local design profession.

Jacques Lange qualified with a BA(FA) Information Design degree from University of Pretoria (1988) and is currently enrolled in an MA programme at the same institution. His professional experience includes corporate and editorial design, strategic consulting, human resources communication, education and profession management.

Working progress
By Justine Bothwick

Do you live to work or work to live? Justine Bothwick asks if designers need to rethink the work/life balance

It is not unusual for designers to work long hours: most people in the industry can tell war stories of coffee-fuelled all-nighters. But how wise is this way of working? This summer saw the last call for applications for the Government's new Challenge Fund, set up to help employers introduce flexible working arrangements for staff that also benefit business. And it appears that the rewards gained from rethinking how we work can be considerable for both the individual and the company. So as the work/life balance debate gathers momentum in the UK, will designers need to take more notice of the arguments surrounding this often contentious issue?
