Between Word and Deed - The Design Education Manifesto
The Education manifesto was presented to the Congress in Seoul in October, 2000. Translated into ten languages, the worldwide distribution of this document is critical to achieving coordination and support for human agency. While the manifesto can be put into circulation, what is also desired is comment and reaction. Rather than putting a message into a bottle and setting it adrift on the electronic sea of communications - even in an array of languages and typographies - this needs an action response. The measure of the manifesto1s success will be taken over time - in discussion and argument in the short-term and through educational program change in the long-term.

Creativity Demystified
By Dr. Jay L. Brand
Psychologist Jay Brand debunks the myths about creativity. Among the good news: You don't have to be a genius, an eccentric or a loner to generate big ideas.

N E W I N O P I N I O N
How important is the general exchange of ideas among colleagues to you?
Graphic designers are involved in a discipline that translates their own creative symbols into a public language. As such, the final product is bound to receive feedback, both from other people and other graphic designers. Through various international organisations and bodies, graphic designers become familiar with experiences fellows of the same profession encounter elsewhere.

F R O M P R E V I O U S O P I N I O N
How often do you encounter the prices being lowered below any professional standards?
We have learnt from a previous opinion poll that many of you do not find official price lists a very realistic picture of the design market. Since such price lists generally represent the professional standard, we tried to learn if the market respects even the minimum standards of the profession.
According to an overwhelming 81 per cent of you, it seems that even the minimum professional standards of our profession are not respected in most cases. This is an outrageous revelation that should urge every design association to try to devise a strategy to alleviate such a grave problem most of you seem to share.
How often do you encounter the prices being lowered below any professional standards?
Very often 81%
Sometimes 14%
Rarely 5%
