Icograda Adopts a New Membership Fee Structure

At the recent General Assembly in Johannesburg (South Africa), Icograda voted on a new Membership Fee Structure that will be applied to the 2002 Membership Fee.

The main objectives of this new Membership Fee structure are:

  • to take each country's wealth into account
  • to ensure that associations enrolling students and retired members are not penalised
  • to ensure that small associations are not penalised in their growth
  • to ensure that no member association represents too large a part of Icograda's budget

    These objectives are reached by:

  • the introduction of three categories according to a country's per capita GNP
  • the free membership for students and retired designers
  • the upgrade of the size categories for the definition of the basic fee
  • the introduction of a Cap Fee

The new approach for Icograda pricing policy will be applied whenever possible in Icograda's activities.

The task was to communicate the newly-united financial force of Volkswagen to partners all over the world. Our concept was to speak an international language as much as possible.

    The end of identity
    by Hugh Aldersey-Williams

The Corporate Identity Consultant: Ayn Rand should have made him the hero of one of her novels. He may surely be counted among the iconic professional types of the latter half of the last century - the architect, the stock trader, the media mogul. These were men (always men) who could distill the essence of a great corporation into a single memorable symbol. But suddenly, their day is done. Corporate identity simply doesn't matter any more. Here's why.

Should you come across your idea and/or concept being plagiarised, how would you react to that?
As we have established last week, resemblances in the works of designers appear fairly often. Yet sometimes we do encounter a case of in-your-face plagiarism. What would you do if you saw your work copied by a fellow designer?
    cases of sheer plagiarism.

Give your opinion and vote at http://www.icograda.org

    F R O M   P R E V I O U S   O P I N I O N

How difficult do you find creating something utterly original?
We wanted to know how hard do you consider the task of being creative and coming up with new ideas all the time.

It seems there is no set rule here: if a project is inspirational, most of us will find it a tolerable challenge to come up with an original idea, and just a small percentage will have no difficulty whatsoever regardless of the project. Over a quarter of you regard this as very difficult, proving that design is always a challenge, no matter how experienced, successful or creative we are.

How difficult do you find creating something utterly original?
    Exceptionally so 28%
    Depends on my inspiration 61%
It is quite easy for me 11%

Screen: Essays on Graphic Design, New Media, and Visual Culture
    By Jessica Helfand
    E: sales@emigre.com
    W: http://www.emigre.com/CBSCREEN.html
The essays collected here decode the technologies, trends, themes, and personalities that define design today, especially "the new media," and provide a road map of things to come. Helfand's first two chapbooks "Paul Rand: American Modernist" and "Six (+2) Essays on Design and New Media" became instant classics. This new compilation brings together essays from the earlier publications along with more than twenty others on a variety of topics including avatars, "the cult of the scratchy," television, sex on the screen, and more.
