World Graphic Design Day in Canberra
AGDA ACT did not want World Graphic Design Day (WGDD), 27 April, to go unnoticed in the nation's capital. As a result the "Creative Business Over Breakfast" seminar was held at the Canberra Playhouse. Speakers Judy Burnett, David Whitbread and Frank Arnold kept the 110 strong audience entertained (not bad for a 7am start) by discussing the benefits of design, branding and personal presentation. Following this guests were invited to the Canberra Museum and Gallery to enjoy breakfast and an exhibition of Canberra's best work designed by local AGDA members.
In 1999 the AGDA ACT Council began a continuing initiative with Greening Australia, the AGDA ACT WGDD Tree Planting. A permanent plot, what city folk call a paddock, has now been set aside for AGDA ACT. 'Our paddock' is adjacent to Hall Village in Canberra's north and this year AGDA ACT volunteers planted 250 trees to give the environment a helping hand.
