AGDA WA Council 2012

Brendan Hibbert, President

Brendan Hibbert has worked in the publishing and graphic design industry since 1994.
After completing a Bachelor of Visual Arts (with a Graphic Design major) at LaTrobe University Bendigo, Brendan worked with London based Oneill Modern Media, designing and developing a number of web sites, producing motion graphic work as well as contributing to numerous European corporate branding projects. On his return to Melbourne he worked with Visual Jazz as a senior designer responsible for managing major campaigns for Simonds Homes, Bang & Olufsen, Smorgon Group and packaging requirements for Defence Force Recruiting.

Brendan has now been in Perth for over seven years lecturing Graphic Design part-time at The Western Australian School of Art Design Media (Central Institute of Technology), runs his own studio BHD, and is currently State President and National Council member for the Australian Graphic Design Association.

Charmaine Cave, Vice President

Charmaine Cave studied graphic design at the TAFE School of Art & Design (now Central Institute of Technology) graduating in 1991. She worked as a graphic designer for the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and TAFE Publications before founding her own studio, Cave Design, in 1997. She has twenty years experience as a graphic designer and specialises in book design for both publishers and self-publishers locally, nationally and internationally. Charmaine is the Vice-President of AGDA WA and also a Councillor for the Government House Foundation of Western Australia.

Sean Mckay, Secretary
Sean Mckay graduated from the Central Institute of Technology in 1995. And since then has worked in various companies specialising in design, packaging and print. He began Forge Creative in 2005, a studio operating in the Fremantle area which works with clients in the mining and industry, arts and professional and community services categories. The studio offers a tailored service in brand identity, print, web design and signage.
Sean is the Secretary of AGDA WA, lectures from time to time in design and business, produces artwork for exhibition, enjoys good music, getting caught in the rain and long walks on the beach.

Stephanie Hampson, Treasurer
Stephanie Hampson graduated from Curtin University in 1992 with Honours specialising in not for profit promotion. She worked for a variety of companies and individuals in the print and design area in Perth and Melbourne in pre production and design roles, after which she ran away to Thailand and Japan.

Returning to Perth in 2002 due to the irresistible lure of ‘grandparents’ for a small child she undertook a Graduate Diploma in Education and a Masters of Design specialising in Cross Cultural Education in the Visual Arts. She currently is looking at doing further study whilst enjoying the research and the opportunity to present this at conferences that her job lecturing at Curtin University brings.

When not torturing friends in her spare time with her new addiction to digital photography, AGDA provides a local forum within the wider design community in Australia to engage with. She considers AGDA an opportunity to develop relationships between industry and education that enrich both professions as well as an opportunity to be inspired by and to connect with other creative’s in Perth and Australia.
